Laura Jean Calfee

Laura Jean Morrow Calfee, 54, lifelong resident of Cleveland found victory after a courageous, determined life’s journey to Heaven on July 31, 2019. After being welcomed by her Savior, Jesus Christ, she was lovingly embraced by her parents, James William “Bill” and Sarah Elizabeth Morrow. She leaves behind the love of her life, her dairy farming husband of nearly 33 years, Ron Calfee, and their special daughter, Miranda Elizabeth, of whom Laura was endlessly devoted.

Aside from her devotion to her family, Laura touched and enriched the lives of hundreds of children and fellow faculty members while teaching for 31 years at McDonald and Black Fox Elementary Schools. Her exceptional accomplishments and inspirational love of teaching was evidenced by her election as Teacher of the Year on numerous occasions, her work to compile and publish numerous student writing anthologies, sponsoring and inspiring writing camps and initiating writing programs.

She attended Michigan Avenue Baptist Church enriching the services with her testimony and singing. Her delicious cooking, talented embroidery, quick wit and humor, and thoughtful card writing will be missed by her family, friends and farming community.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Wallin officiating. Interment will follow in New Friendship Cemetery with Kevin England, Mitch Brady, Travis Hudson, Austin Calfee, Jason Nicholson, Alan Watson, Brandon Edwards, and Todd Stevison serving as pallbearers.

Her family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home and from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church prior to the service at 2:00 p.m.
