Shirley Jean Osment Coleman left her earthly home for her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Born in Cleveland, Tennessee, she was the wife of her lifelong love, Jimmy Lee Coleman, Sr., beloved husband, father, and devoted employee driving for Brown Stove Works (Cleveland) more than 2 million miles without incident. Shirley worked as a seamstress for numerous clothiers, including Cleveland’s Hardwick Clothing Company.
Family was her love in life. Shirley cherished her time with her husband and son, her sisters and their families, her nieces and all of her family. She loved cooking, camping and being feisty and always fashionable. She had an amazing sense of humor and was a master of “one liners” up until her very last days. Her pride and joy in life was her son, Jimmy Lee, Jr. (Jim Coleman). Her family immigrated from Ireland in the 1700’s as farmers to North Carolina, then to Bradley County.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jimmy Lee Coleman, Sr.; parents, Nathan and Grace Scoggins Osment; and sister, Lois Dean Browder.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Lee Coleman, Jr. (Amy Walker); sister, Wilma Hope (Tommy); nieces: Michelle Denmark (Bruce), Kaye Browder Buckner (Jimmy), and Sherry Lawson (Ronnie); great nieces and nephews and many Osment and Scoggins relatives.
At Shirley’s request, a graveside service only will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Butch Brown officiating.
Jim and Amy Coleman wish to thank the amazing care Shirley received in her final days from Alexian Grove, Parkridge Medical Center-ED, MICU, Valley Behavioral Health and Hospice of Chattanooga.
In lieu of flowers, Jim and Amy requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Chattanooga Foundation, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
