Wayne D. Henry, 86, a lifelong resident of Ooltewah, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019 surrounded by his loving family, following a short battle with cancer. He was a member of Ooltewah Baptist church where he served faithfully and selflessly in numerous capacities. Wayne was in the insurance business for many years and since retiring, he owned and managed Premier Used Autos.
Wayne leaves a legacy of loving and serving well, both his family and his extended church family. His girls were the delight of his heart and his grandchildren always put a smile on his face. His sweet smile and laughter will be sorely missed.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine; his parents John and Martha Henry; two brothers, James and Melvin Henry and sister, Frances Roberts.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Hearn, Leisa (Roy) Leffew and Deidra (Tommy) Baird; three granddaughters, Amy (Gavin) Cox, Meagen Baird and Taylor (Christian) Parker ; three great-grandchildren, Hadlee, Preston, Thea and baby Carson (soon to be delivered), several nieces and nephews, Brenda, Ted, John, Pat, Mary Frances and Lebron.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Ooltewah Baptist Church with Pastor Jeremy Colloms and the Reverend Larry Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Old McDonald Cemetery on Snow Hill Road with Lebron Henry, Hartley Sylar, Buster Sylar, Steve Rogers, Mike Bowman, John Henry, Tom Ehrenberg and Kenny Stiner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons and Ushers of Ooltewah Baptist Church, members of the Brotherhood Sunday school class of Ooltewah Baptist Church and the Hardees’s of Ooltewah, “B” Club.
His family will receive friends from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Ooltewah Baptist Church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
The family requests that memorials be made in his memory to the R3 Building improvement campaign at Ooltewah Baptist Church, P.O. Box 9, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
The family would like to add a special thank you to Hospice of Chattanooga and the Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga for their care of Wayne.
