Winston Delmas Payne

October 1, 1935 — March 2, 2019

Winston Delmas Payne, 83, of Cleveland, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at his home.  He was born October 1, 1935 to the late William Frazier Payne and Ida Leora Davis Payne.  Winston listened to the Lord’s calling and became a minister early in life and was a devoted church member at New Liberty Baptist Church.  He had the honor of being song leader for over 50 years.  Winston loved gospel singing and is favorite song was Amazing Grace.  He always wanted to travel to Israel and got the opportunity a few years back and while there was baptized in the River of Jordan. He was a Shriner and enjoyed being involved with that organization.  Winston was retired from Honeywell and during the time he was working and after he retired, he got into genealogy and found many of his ancestors.  Winston loved to visit his cousins, other family members and friends.  He loved to go camping below his dad and mom’s old home place.  There, along with some friends, they would hunt squirrels and fish.  They camped in a little building on the property until a snake took up residence.  Needless to say, they left the little building and found the truck camper to be more to his liking.                                    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Inez Ledford and brothers, Harless Lee Payne and Lloyd Donald Payne. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Evelyn Payne of the home; and daughters, Kathy Barber of Cleveland, Debbie (Bennie) Albritton of Calhoun and Vicky Carver (special friend, Bill Miller) and Anita Carver of the home.  Although his girls are not his flesh and blood he could not have loved them anymore if they had been. He is also survived by sisters, Atha (John) Lentz of Cleveland, Hazel (John) McCann of Benton, Charlotte Johnson of Cleveland and Loretta Pierce of Blue Ridge, GA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Waymond Cooper and Pastor Ray Cheathem officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home followed by a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Payne family guestbook at www.fikefh.com.
