Joseph (Joe) Paul Hamilton, Jr. passed away December 2, 2018, in Cleveland, Tenn. A lifelong Cleveland resident, he was a driving force in the creation of the Museum Center at 5ive Points and helped bring the community together to raise $4.5 million to build the facility. He served as executive director from 1994 to 2006. The museum earned 10 awards of commendation or excellence from the Tennessee Association of Museums in its first seven years of operation.
Previously, he served as director of Cleveland Associated Industries and assistant director of Bradley/Cleveland Community Services. He worked with his father in JPH Builders.
He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee and a Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
His family and friends will remember him as outgoing, fun and creative. He loved rock ‘n roll, good conversation, great movies and a glass of wine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Paul and Jean Hamilton.
He is survived by his siblings, Jan Hamilton Powell, Jeffrey Hamilton and Jennifer Hamilton Blankenship (George); nieces and nephews Jessica Hamilton Fortner (Shane), Dylan Hamilton, Jacob and Natalie Blankenship, and grandniece, Margot Fortner; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph and Son Funeral Home.
A gathering of friends will start at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
