Nora Lawson Newell, 97, of Birchwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. She was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church in Birchwood where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She will be remembered as a very loving and giving woman who was a faithful servant of the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 71 years, Howard F. Newell, Sr.; her son, Howard F. “Frank” Newell, Jr.; parents, Nathaniel and Jessie Cofer Lawson; four brothers, N.L. (Bonnie) Lawson, Kermit Lawson, Raymond (Jeannette) Lawson and Russell Max Lawson; and three sisters, Hazel (Alfred) Burton, Pauline (Paul) Moon and Fronia Lawson.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Newell of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Rhonda Boller and husband, Bryon of Ooltewah; sister-in-law, Ruby Lawson of Athens; and several nieces, nephews, and too many loved ones to count.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with the Reverend James C. Hutchings officiating. Interment will follow in Cofer Cemetery with Bryon Boller, Rusty Munger, Frank Friddell, Frank Friddell, Jr., Michael Friddell and Tony Allison serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Blair and Jerry Allison.
Her family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
