Betty Jean Clayton, 89, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in a local health care facility. She was born April 21, 1929 in Rome, GA to the late Lillian Hawk Stowe and Luther Stowe and moved to Cleveland when she was six months old. Betty Jean was a nurse’s aide at Bradley Memorial Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Clayton, Jr.; and son, John Michael Clayton.
Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Angie Clayton and Gladys Clayton, both of Cleveland; nieces, Lisa Clayton, Anita Zarrabi (Ramin), Carol Young (David), Beth Downey (Chris), Jan Hudgins (Rob) and Karen Kirk; nephews, Gary Trimm, Brent Clayton (Deleana) and Gary “Bubba” Clayton (Kim); numerous great nieces and great nephews; and cousins, Robert J. Hawk, Kay Hawk Young, Martha Jo Martin, Jim Hawk and Earlene Hawk and all their children.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Wickes officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery with Brent Clayton, Gary “Bubba” Clayton, Terry Henry, Clint Clayton, David Young and Jeff Anderson serving as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Betty’s family appreciates the loving care of the staff and residents at Brookdale Assisted Living. She considered them her friends.
