Gladys E. Forgey, 93, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 in a local healthcare facility. Gladys was a member of the Church of God and attended Prospect Church of God. In early years she taught first grade in a one room school in Elk Valley, TN. She then worked in Oak Ridge during the Manhattan Project. After her marriage she was a devoted pastor’s wife helping tirelessly in his ministry. Her life was also devoted to her precious daughter Sherry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Ella Mae Day Douglas; daughter, Sherry Gail Forgey; brother, John Paul Douglas and infant brother, Ed Douglas; sister, Ruth Carroll; brothers-in-law, Bill Carroll, Don Alley, Tom Barnhart, Lake Forgey , Clyde Forgey, Charles Forgey and Donald Forgey; sister-in-law, Dorothy Holder and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ida and Ambers Forgey.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, the Reverend James Forgey of Cleveland; sisters, Easter Barnhart of Cleveland and Betty Alley of Cleveland; brother-in-law, Leroy Forgey and wife, Agnes of Pikeville; and many nieces and nephews who loved her very much and helped care for her.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Timothy Gann and Dr. Mark Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery with N.C. Cartwright, Rick Simpson, Corey Simpson, Dewey Woody, Marty McNabb, Bryan Maddox and Logan Maddox serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the funeral home.
