Ben E. Lewis, “Gentle Ben”, 77, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving wife, Linda and other family members. He was born in Polk County on May 25, 1940. Ben graduated from Auctioneer School at the age of 20 and continued on to obtain a Real Estate Broker License in 1968.
He worked as an auctioneer for Lewis Land & Auction Company, which he and his wife owned for 49 years. They also owned and operated Ben E. Lewis Meat Processing Plant and Ben E. Lewis Moving Services for several years. He was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Ben was preceded in death by his father, John C. Lewis; mother, Ladell Lewis Mosely; brothers, John Paul Lewis and Bobby Lewis; and sister, Lorine Lewis.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Linda J. Guinn Lewis of Cleveland; children, Rhonda (Randy) Arms, B. Annette (Dwayne) Bennett and Ben “Bo” (Lisa) Lewis, Jr., all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Lindsey Schrock, Thomas Webster, Logan Arms, Cody Green, Caleb Green, Dylan Bennett, Lyndsey Bennett, Justin Conner and Katie Ritenour; great grandchildren, Averie Green and Callie Schrock; three sisters, Geraldine Lewis of Benton, Bela (Greely) Roddy of Ooltewah and Charlotte Taylor of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Guinn Green and Pastor Eddie Trentham officiating. Interment will follow in Chestuee Cemetery with Eddie Scott officiating. Justin Conner, Michael Cranfield, James Jimbo Guinn, Russell Guinn, Mark Howard, Eddie Swallows, Dwayne Swanson and Allan Walsh will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Cranfield and Bobbie Long.
His family will receive friends from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Ben’s memory to Hearth Hospice, 2425 Keith St. NW, Cleveland TN 37311. Ben’s family would like to thank Laura Baker and Kelli Harless of Hearth Hospice.
