John L. Boyd

July 9, 1924 — March 30, 2018

John L. Boyd, 93, of Cleveland passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. He was a charter member and deacon of Waterville Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Silver Seniors. He and his late wife, Ann served as camp host at Cumberland Mt. State Park for sixteen years until their health failed them. John was owner/operator of Boyd’s Mobile Feed and retired from Bendix Corporation.

He was inducted into the Agriculture Hall of Fame and was a member of the Angus Association. John also served as a lieutenant of the Bradley County Rescue Squad and served with the Bradley Baptist Disaster Relief Team.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Boyd; parents, Frank and Audath Bagby Boyd; special aunt and uncle who raised him, Loma and Clarence Lambdin; brothers, Robert Boyd, Glen Boyd and Frank Boyd; and sister, Ruth Boyd.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, Betty Davis (Larry) and Vickie Ownby (Richard), all of Cleveland, Sylvia Calfee (Ray) of Charleston and Joan Ownby (Tony) of Cleveland; grandchildren: Melissa Freeman (Josh) and Amy Cramer(Josh), all of Cleveland, Orvil Ownby of Knoxville, Matthew Ownby of Cleveland, Austin Calfee (Kayla) of Charleston, Anita Calfee of Charleston, Dawn Wilson (Dan) of Knoxville and David Cartwright of Chicago, IL; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 at Waterville Baptist Church with the Reverend Allan Lovelace and the Reverend Joe Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery with Frank Reese, Ron Chastain, Tracy Hancock, Larry Mantooth, Troy Crowder and Tim Ownby serving as pallbearers. Jack Snyder and the deacons of Waterville Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

His family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday at the church prior to the service.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Waterville Baptist Church Building Fund, 3722 Dalton Pike SE, Cleveland, TN 37323.
