Rex Allen Young, 73, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at a local health care facility. He was a proud veteran of the 9th Infantry, 39th Division Army serving in the Vietnam War. His severe dementia was a causality of his service and although it had a profound effect on his later years, he was always proud of his country and his contribution to the freedoms we hold so dear. He was a loyal and dedicated Republican and always exercised his right to vote.
He was a kind and loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. Before his illness, he was always there to help others with their needs. In his younger years he enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing, baseball and softball. He retired from Bowater where he was a millwright. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Rex was preceded in death by his daughter, Aliena Young; parents, Melvin and Anna Lee Young; and brother, Jim Young.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gladys Logan Young; two daughters, Christy Goza and husband, Jay of Cleveland and Cassie Davis and husband, Jay of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Logan Griffith, Charlee Davis, Rett Davis, Seth Goza and Tyler Goza; two very special great great nephews, Brylan and Liam Maples; and his remaining Vietnam brothers, Willow Narramore of Moss Point, MS, Allen Aronica of Ellensburg, WA, Marty Schroeder of Myrtle Beach, SC, Al Eller of Monticello, IN, Robert Moore of Bowling Green, KY and John Johnson of Clarksville, TN.
