June McDowell, 92, of Cleveland passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 28, 1925 in Pekin, Indiana to the late Raymond and Ruth Hendricks Blankenbaker
At age 17, she left home to become a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II in Miami, FL for Boeing Aircraft. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, #2598. June was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She loved to cook, garden and dance. June loved life to its fullest and enjoyed being with people.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert “Mack” McDowell; daughter, Paula Wilson; and seven siblings.
Survivors include her two daughters, Malea (Jake) McClanahan of Cleveland and Dale (Jerry) McClellan of Salem, IN; nine grandchildren, Shane Caywood, Eric Caywood, Nathan Caywood, Erin Caywood, Jason McClellan, Amy McClellan, Phillip McClellan, Chanda Graig and Travis Graig; fourteen great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Terry Caywood officiating. The interment will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery with Shane Caywood, Eric Caywood, Travis Graig, Jason McClellan, Samuel Mack Weathers and Phillip McClellan serving as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.
