James David Strickland, 62, of Cleveland passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at a local hospital. He was a paper carrier for the Chattanooga Times Free Press and the Cleveland Daily Banner for 33 years. He was formerly in several car clubs and had a special interest in Volkswagons and hot wheels. James was of the Christian faith. He cherished his time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Strickland and Margaret “Nina” Sewell Strickland. Survivors include his children, James David Strickland, II of Cleveland and Cassie Gaston and husband, Jared of Portland, TN; four grandchildren, McKinley Strickland, Berkley Gaston and twins, Kutler and Landry Gaston; and three brothers, Robert Gene Strickland and wife, Martha and Curtis Strickland and wife, Diane, all of Cleveland and Randy Strickland of Panama City, FL; the mother of his children, Judy Stanfill of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Guinn Green officiating. The interment will follow in the Sewell Family Cemetery in McMinn County with Jared Gaston, Brandon Strickland, Matt Brown, Blake Crabtree, Corbin Cawood and Kellye Cawood serving as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
