Dorothy Humphrey Epperson, born November 12, 1935, passed away peacefully in her home on December 29th surrounded by her beloved family. She was 82. “Dot”, as she was affectionately known by most, was a shining light in many lives. She exemplified goodness, grace, and optimism in her daily life. She loved deeply, gave generously, and lived life to its fullest. She had a beautiful, genuine smile and a welcoming spirit that drew everyone to her.
Dorothy’s life was devoted to her faith and family. She was truly one of God’s good and faithful servants. She loved her church family at Big Spring Baptist where she had been an active member since 1976. Her faith in God never wavered, and she may never know how many lives she positively influenced simply by living a life of grace and service to others.
Dorothy graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1953. She met and married Mart Allen Epperson in 1956 and remained a devoted wife to him for 61 years until her passing. She worked at Hardwick Stove Company and then the Data Processing department of Bowater Paper Corporation before retiring in 1990. She and Mart built their final homestead on a pastoral family farm where they lived out their retirement years enjoying a beautiful fresh-water spring and large garden.
In addition to being a devoted wife, Dot was also mother to two children who were always at the center of her life, Lisa Epperson Armstrong and Gregory Alan Epperson. She poured her life into raising her family. She worked tirelessly, but always enjoyed vacationing, especially in Florida where she loved to walk on the beach.
Dorothy is also survived by a beloved daughter-in-law, Jonna Douglas Epperson and son-in-law, Eric Armstrong, as well as two grandchildren who were very dear to her, Amy Lauren Epperson, and Christopher Alan Epperson and his wife, Hannah Soluri Epperson. Also dear to her is her surviving sister, Nancy Humphrey Creasman and her husband, Ron.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Still and Forrest Carl Humphrey, Sr., sisters and brother-in-laws, Katherine and Peter Hurd, and Martha Jane and Raymond Chisenall, brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Carl and Ella Goforth Humphrey, and Forrest Carl Humphrey, Jr.
