Johnnye Hallum Sullivan

December 31, 1926 — July 12, 2017

Johnnye Hallum Sullivan, 90, of Cleveland and a former resident of Nashville, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 peacefully at her home after a short illness.

Mrs. Sullivan was the daughter of the late Sydney Mari Mitchell Hallum and Jesse James Hallum and was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Darce “Frank” Sullivan; her sister, Martha Gaynell “Nell” Brown; her brother-in-law, Robert Burl Brown; her brother, Jesse James “Jay” Hallum; and her nephew, Max Hallum.

Johnnye and Darce Sullivan were married in 1946 and moved to Nashville in 1954 where Darce became a partner and later president of Sullivan Electric Company.  For decades, she was a faithful and active member of Park Avenue Baptist Church where she taught and supervised beginners-level Sunday School.  After her husband’s death Mrs. Sullivan moved back to Cleveland where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to travel and read books.  She loved music.

Survivors include her children, Deborah Sullivan Drake of Cleveland and Mark Hallum Sullivan of Long Beach, California; her grandchildren, Meredith Drake Kilgore (Lee Kilgore), Erin Drake and Kevin Drake; and her great-grandchildren, Kale Kilgore and Catie Claire Kilgore; nieces and nephews Robert Bruce Brown (Susan Brown), Kenneth Dale Brown (Brenda Brown), Linda Sullivan Jenkins (Kensey Jenkins), Buzz Maddox, Connie Vaupel Overbey, Peggy Owen, Pam Sullivan Rice, Donna Gessert Watkins.

The  service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July, 15, 2017 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, Tennessee 37221 with Pastor David Werner officiating.  The interment will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens with Bruce Brown, Ken Brown, Kevin Drake, Lee Kilgore, Buzz Maddox and Mark Alspaugh serving as pallbearers.  Honorary Pallbearers are Austen Brown, Bobby Sadler, Tommy Atwood, Gene Turner and the Temple Bible Class of Park Avenue Baptist Church. 

Her family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Nashville. 

The family requests that memorials be made to Avalon Hospice, 2960 Westside Drive NW, Cleveland, TN  37312.
