Jack McAlister, 83, a lifelong resident of Charleston, went home to be with Jesus, Thursday, January 19, 2017. He was born October 28, 1933 to the late Clifford and Clara McAlister. Known as “Mailman Jack” he was the rural mail carrier in Charleston for over 38 years. A veteran of the United States Army he worked at the Post Office at the base in Fairbanks, AK. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed many motorcycle trips throughout the years. Jack was a member of Council Baptist Church. He was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 60 ½ years, Belva Deane Armstrong McAlister of Charleston; daughter, Kim Covington and son-in-law, Charlie of Cleveland; son, Keith McAlister of Panama; three grandsons, Chas Covington of Nashville and Ephram and Eric McAlister of Manchester; brother, Denver McAlister and wife, Mary of Cleveland; brothers-in-law, Jim Armstrong and David Chapman, both of Cleveland; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Council Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Council Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class.
His family will receive friends from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
