Evelyn D. Hawkins, 92, of Cleveland passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at her home. She was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her main objective in life was Christ first and the love of her family. She will be missed immensely by her family and all who knew her.
She worked at Ross Carpet Mills for a few years; however she preferred to stay at home and raise her children. She became a babysitter and the children she kept in her home received her love as if they were her own children and grandchildren. Today several of those children still refer to her as Mamaw Hawkins. In her later years, she and Dad loved raising cattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Hawkins; parents, Vascho and Beulah Mantooth; brothers, Lawrence and Earl Mantooth; sisters, Louise Traylor and Frances Hawkins; half sisters, Margaret Whitaker and Dorothy Williams; and grandchild, Michael Alan Caywood.
She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Caywood and husband Don, Linda Fogwell and husband Rick, and Peggy Ball and husband Gary all of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Susan Ledford and husband Henley, Melissa Wilson and husband Philip, and Doug Caywood and wife Jill all of Cleveland; seven great grandchildren: Emily Cunningham and husband Derek, Keith Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Cole Ledford, Caleb Cain and fiancée Jessica Samuelson and son Eli, Xander Caywood, Ben Caywood, all of Cleveland; sisters-in-law, Jannie Mantooth, Emma Ellen Hawkins, Gatha Humbard and Lorene Brown, a sister-in-law and dear friend who was as close as a sister; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Humbard and Pastor Leroy Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Springs Cemetery with Doug Caywood, Philip Wilson, Henley Ledford, Keith Wilson, Caleb Cain and Derek Cunningham serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.
Her family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416
