Robert L. Sliger, 94, of of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. During the war he worked on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge. He retired from Bowater after 17 years of service. At age 91, he carried the torch for the Senior Olympics in Chattanooga. He was a member of Prospect United Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annel Mae Sliger; parents, Arthur F. and Florine Starnes Sliger; and several siblings.
Survivors include his children, Jerry Ann Roberts and husband, Larry of Daytona Beach Shores, FL and James Robert Sliger and wife, Gladys of Winchester; five grandchildren Christina V. Crouch and Corey Roberts, both of Dalton, GA, Jeanette D. Berthelot of Harvey, LA and James Dale Sliger of Belle Chasse, LA and Pamela Ann Sliger of Belvidere, TN; ten great grandchildren, Ashley Crouch, Christopher Owens, William C. Roberts, Andrew J. Roberts, James Sliger, Brandon Tinnel, Timothy Sliger, Christian Tinnel, Kaylan Marie Berthelot and Emily Ann Berthelot; sisters, Barbara Howard of Cleveland and Elizabeth Wilson of Ooltewah; brother, Hubert Sliger of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with the Reverend Sam Melton officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Timothy Sliger, Corey Roberts, Christopher Owens, Dale Sliger, Allen Sliger and Robert Teague will serve as pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
