Billy Marshall Hargis, 81, of Coppell, TX, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016. He was born in Cleveland, Tennessee on March 26, 1934 to the late John B. and Edna C. Hargis. Bill was a 1952 graduate of Bradley High School and a 1956 graduate of University of Tennessee. He was employed for 30 years with Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company first at a subsidiary in Chattanooga, TN and then at headquarters in St. Paul, MN as Development Manager of Electronic Products. In 1984 he relocated to Austin, TX to be 3M’s liaison at Micro Electronic Products Consortium. After retiring from 3M, Bill contracted a 5 year commitment with Coors Electronic Package Company in Chattanooga as Research and Development Manager. In Chattanooga he and his wife, Betty Jo, were members of First Centenary United Methodist Church.
Family members preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his brother, John B. Hargis, Jr. and his sister, Bernadine Finnell.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Edgmon Hargis of Coppell, TX; son, Dr. Billy M. Hargis, Jr. and his wife, Kris of Fayetteville, AR; daughter, Sharon Hargis Bell of Newtown, PA; four special grandchildren, Jessie Kate Hargis, Tucker Marshall Hargis, Marston Marshall Bell and Garrett Morgan Bell; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for friends will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home in Cleveland, Tennessee. A family graveside service will follow at Hilcrest Cemetery with the Reverend Tim Bracken officiating.
