Laverne Boyd Bryant, 95, a long-time resident of Cleveland, devout Christian, and Charter Member of Stuart Park Baptist Church, died in a local assisted living facility on Saturday morning. Laverne and her family moved to Cleveland, TN from Hodge, Louisiana in 1954. Laverne was born May 20, 1920 in Winn Parish, Louisiana. Her father and stepmother raised twelve children on their farm. After graduating from High School, Laverne and her sister moved to Monroe, Louisiana. She later obtained a position with Southern Bell and transferred to San Antonio, Texas. There she married Sargent John W. Bryant of the US Army after his honorable discharge during World War II. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Bryant; and daughter, Nancy Carole Bryant. Surviving are her sons and family: John Bryant and his wife Janet of Jackson, TN, Richard Bryant and his wife Linda of Memphis, and Frank Bryant and his wife Deanna of Cleveland. She leaves her grandchildren: Claire Bryant Tullos and husband Jeff, Laura Bryant, Kyle Bryant and wife Susan, Kaitlyn Bryant, Rachel Bryant, Lucas Bryant, William Bryant, and Spencer Bryant, as well as three great-grandsons: Fulton and Davis Tullos, and Grayson Diamond. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Fike-Randolph Funeral Home.
