Betty Jean Thaxton Johnson, 89, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and mother-in-law has joined her husband of 64 years, Bishop Buford M. Johnson in her eternal home. She assisted in her husband's 52 year ministry as the wife of a state evangelist, pastor, general headquarters appointee and state overseer for the Church of God of Prophecy. Betty was a member of Keith Street Ministries. While living in Cleveland she worked at Preston Printing and White Wing Publishing House. When Buford was appointed as state overseer of Mississippi, Florida, Ohio and Indiana, Betty served as these states Women's Missionary Secretary. She also worked in the annual youth camps of each state. Betty was born in Memphis, TN on July 12, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford M. Johnson; her parents, Thomas Roy and Dolly Thaxton; her brother, Thomas Thaxton, Jr.; son, U. S. Navy Master Chief Larry Johnson and wife, Susan; and her father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Nannie Lou Johnson. Survivors include her son, Jerry W. Johnson and wife, Elsie Ann of Cleveland; grandson, Morgan Johnson and wife, Christie of Cleveland; granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson of Cleveland; great granddaughters, Autumn and Alli Johnson and Sophie Smith, all of Cleveland; niece, Sharon Thaxton of Chattanooga; and nephew, Mark Thaxton and wife, Cathy, both of Chattanooga. The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor John A. Stone and the Reverend James Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Her family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
