Marie Geren Hooper, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born June 17, 1925 to the late August and Barbara Geren, she lived her early years in the Eureka Community of Bradley County. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph Brackett Hooper. Together they were active in the family farming, cattle and trucking business. Marie was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland for over sixty years and was a member of the Gleaners Sunday school class. Until her later years, Marie was an active member of the Home Demonstration Club, the Museum Center at Five Point and the Cleveland Family YMCA where she enjoyed water Aerobics. A very talented seamstress, she was always known for her sense of style and appearance, particularly loving beautiful shoes. Her love of Antique furniture, along with her talents in decorating made her home a beautiful and welcome place for all. A wonderful southern cook, it was always a pleasure to visit her kitchen. Her other interests were gardening, quilting and traveling with her dear friend Elizabeth Maierle. Marie is survived by her son, Joseph Larry Hooper Sr. and wife Sandra; her daughter, Judy Hooper Chandler and husband Bill; grandsons, Joseph Larry Hooper, Jr., and companion Janet Sievers, Brian Geren Hooper and wife April; her great-granddaughter, Isabella Caroline Hooper; and nephew, C. Paul Deakins, Jr. The family would like to thank Janey Patten, Dr. Renee Collins, Brookdale Senior Living staff, Avalon Hospice and Diana Kitt for their loving care of Marie. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Fike Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Candies Creek Cemetery with Pastor Jim Gibson officiating. Joseph Larry Hooper, Jr., Brian Geren Hooper, C Paul Deakins, Jr., Bill Chandler, Keith Hines and John Haile will serve as pallbearers.
