Gaynelle Humberd, 99, of Cleveland, passed away Friday morning, February 20, 2015 at a local health care facility. Miss Gaynelle, as her students called her, taught school for 39 years and touched the lives of many in southern Bradley County having taught at Old Number 4 and Valley View Elementary Schools. She was loved in her community by her former students and attended several school reunions receiving honors for her service. She attended Sugar Creek United Methodist Church for 94 years and served as treasurer and overseer of Sugar Creek Cemetery. In addition she was involved in the United Methodist Youth Fellowship for a number of years. Miss Gaynelle was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Harriet Hughes Humberd; sister, Gladys Humberd; brothers, Russell, Layton and Bill Humberd; niece, Donna Humberd; and nephews, Steve and Stanley Humberd. Survivors include her sister, Kathleen Sutton of Newport, TN; sister-in-law, Sue Humberd of Cleveland; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Dr. Terril Littrell officiating. Interment will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
