Mary Wallace Pope

Mary Wallace Pope, 91, a resident of Charleston passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 11, 2014 in a Chattanooga hospital. She was a member of Charleston United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pope was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Garland Pope; parents, Edward E. and Lucille Parsons Wallace. Survivors include her children: daughter, Gina Parkerson of Kingsport, TN, two sons, John Edward "Eddie" Pope and Mike Pope both of Charleston; grandchildren: Diana Parkerson Dennis of Kingsport, TN, Cheryl Ann Pope of Charleston, Sgt. Lisa Marie Pope, Germany, where she is serving with the U.S. Army, Amanda Pope Stephens and husband Curtis of Cleveland and Samantha Nicole Pope of Chattanooga; sister, Virginia Vanderhoogt of Tallulah, LA; two great-grandchildren, Lauryn Dennis and John Dennis; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, June Sorrells of Charleston. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October, 14, 2014 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Cheatham and Pastor Mark Barber officiating. Entombment will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, with Freddie Allen, Gary Knight, Lloyd Crowder, Eddie Goins, Herb Stafford and Glen Houston serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
