Samuel "Sammy" E. Burnette, Jr., 58, of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 in an Athens hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving 17 years, which included time in Germany. Sammy enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on his boat. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. Burnette, Sr. and Edna Lucille Taylor Burnette; and grandson, Clayton Powell. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Brush Burnette of Calhoun; children, Jessica Burnette, Bryan Hafley and wife, Jessica and Stephanie Clayton, all of Calhoun and Dustin Hafley and wife, Karen of Georgia; five grandchildren, Jaxson Powell, Macey Hafley, Braxton Hafley, Austin Hafley and John Hafley; sister, Susan R. Balinger and husband, Jeffrey of Cleveland; brother, Jeffrey E. Burnette, Sr. and wife, Kandi of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Jeffrey Burnette, Jr. and David Burnette, both of Englewood. The funeral will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2014 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Titus Snyder officiating. His family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home and on Sunday one hour prior to the service.
