Patsy "Pat" Ann Sample

Patsy Ann Sample, known by friends as Pat, passed away at the age of 81 on Monday, June 9, 2014 at her residence in St. Augustine, FL. Patsy was born in Cleveland to the late Homer and Vesta Faw on February 12, 1933 and resided mostly in Cleveland until her marriage in 1953. She returned to her family and friends in Cleveland in 1991, where she resided until earlier this year. She married a dashing Navy man also from Cleveland, Bobbie Lee Sample, and they shared the world travels common to a Naval career for 37 years until his death in 1990. Pat was a wonderful Navy wife and lived all over the world including Athens, Greece; Ponce, Puerto Rico; and Key West, FL. When asked, she could not name her favorite place she lived, as they all had something special to offer. Patsy was a loving, caring mother and a great friend. She was an expert china painter and enjoyed reading, playing cards, traveling and visiting with friends and family. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, as was her mother, Vesta Faw McCaghren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marc and sister, Carolyn. She is survived by her four children, Robert Sample of Atlanta, GA, Karen Walters of Melrose, FL, Mark Sample of St. Augustine, FL and Kim Kalhor of McLean, VA ; and her five grandchildren, Lee Sample, Madison and Lauren Sample and Elise and Alex Kalhor. Please join us as we celebrate Pat's life, kindness and love at her funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Caywood officiating. Interment will follow in Eastanallee Baptist Church Cemetery in Riceville. Her family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
