Charles Kenneth Toomey, 84, a resident of Cleveland, passed away, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at a Chattanooga hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Toomey retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. He was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church, but was currently attending West Cleveland Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Toomey; mother, Harriet Patterson; and brother, Bill Toomey. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Virgie Mantooth Toomey of Cleveland; children, Trish Yates and husband, Gaylord of Cape Coral, FL and Susan Toomey of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Sean Yates and wife, Heather of Pompano Beach, FL, Dana Ruggiero and husband, Jonathan of Cape Coral, FL and Stephenie McKinney and fiancé, Brandon Harrison of Smyrna, TN; three great grandchildren, Allison Ruggiero, Andrah Ruggiero and Nolan Yates; sister, Barbara Brewer and husband, Dan of Franklin, TX; sister-in-law Gladys Pullen of Cleveland; brother-in-law, Howard Mantooth of Princeton, IL; and several beloved nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Caywood, Pastor Arris Cavander and Pastor Matt Ward officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Ed Mantooth, Jack Mantooth, Tommy Mantooth, Doyle Duvall, Lynn Walker and R. B. Pierce will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
