Loyd Joseph Cofer, Sr., 96, a resident of Georgetown passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at his home. He had been a member of the Oak Grove Church of God since 1952. Mr. Cofer was an avid gardener. He was retired from Cavalier Corporation after 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lennie Shahan Cofer who passed away July 28, 1996; parents, J. Claude and Delia Wooden Cofer; granddaughters, Robin Renee Whitaker and Kenna Cofer Ledford; great-grandson, Austin; sister, DeEtta Moles; and son-in-law, Pastor Joe D. Whitaker. Survivors include his 3 children: daughter, Lavonne Cofer Whitaker of Cleveland; sons, Lloyd J. Cofer, Jr. and wife Darlene of Georgetown, and Kenneth Ross Cofer and wife Debbie of Georgetown; eight grandchildren: J. Darrell Whitaker, Nathan Cofer, Ben Cofer, Jana Edwards, Tara Rievley, Sharon Welch, Rebekah Szpur and Dana Gregory; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Nathan Cofer, Mark Rievley, Josh Gregory, Darrell Whitaker, Timothy Welch, Terry Lee Ledford, Eric Edwards and Sean Szpur serving as pallbearers.
