Eddie G. Painter, 68, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at his home with his family around him. He had struggled with illness for several years. He was a lifelong resident of Cleveland and a member of West Cleveland Baptist Church for many years. He was an employee and manager of Fike Funeral Home over 25 years where enjoyed helping others at their time of need. Eddie had volunteered in the community and had been a previous member of the Bradley County Fire and Rescue Service. He served 8 years in the Air National Guard. Eddie loved being outdoors and enjoyed gardening, having farm animals, camping, fishing and spending with his family. His courage and determination was an inspiration for everyone around him. He had a positive effect on many lives over the years. Eddie always had a smile no matter what the situation was. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Edna Painter; and brothers-in-law, Leon Massengil and Willard Thomas. Survivors include his son, Chris Painter and his wife, Joyce, who he thought of as a daughter, of Cleveland; his grandson who he was very proud of, Cody Painter and wife, Haley; Lance Corporal Ryan Ramsey who was like a grandson to him; three sisters, Betty Massengil, Shirley Brock and husband, Charles and Wanda Thomas, all of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends who helped take care of him over the past couple of years. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Arris Cavender officiating. He will be laid to rest with his parents in Fort Hill Cemetery following the service. Tony Ramsey, Fred Ramsey, Jr., Melvin Williams and other family members will serve as pallbearers.
