Joseph "Freddy" Carlton

August 13, 1944 — April 2, 2014

Joseph "Freddy" Carlton, 69, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a maintenance supervisor with Shaw Industries for over 20 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Cuban Blockade. Joe was a member of the V.F. W. Post #2598 and the American Legion Post #81 and was also a member and officer of the 40 & 8. He was a member of Stanfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edna Bush Carlton; wife, Wanda Lynn Carlton; and son, Jason Brent Carlton. Survivors include his sister, Teresa Carlton Compton and husband, Dr. Richard Compton of Summerville, GA and Robert Wayne Carlton and wife, Darlene of Odessa, TX; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Jeff Howard and Dr. Richard Compton officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Dr. Keith Compton, Dr. Meiklejohn McKenzie, Philippe Schaller, Byron Bush, Myron Bush and Larry Dotson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Choate, Derek Allen, Kenneth Allen, Chris Allen, Kirk Allen and Jason Hicks. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
