Derick Joel Ownby, 48, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was born August 10, 1965 and graduated from Bradley Central High School and Cleveland State Community College. Derick was employed with TWH Architects in Chattanooga for 21 years. He was of the Baptist faith and a deacon at Valley View Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Ownby; paternal grandparents, Ashley and Ethel Ownby; and maternal grandparents, Leonard and Lela Frazier. Survivors include his wife, Tammie Beck Ownby; son, Nathan Joel Ownby; mother, Oleta Frazier Ownby; two sisters, Renee' Ownby LaDuke and Treva Ownby Hillard; brother, Tillis Ownby and wife, Vicki; mother-in-law, Jean Beck; sister-in-law, Donna Beck McSpadden and husband, Daniel, all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Arris Cavender officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Brent Collett, Daniel McSpadden, Tim Frazier, Danny Lewallen, Scott Freeman and Jim Critchfield serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
