Herman Earl Duggan, 94, a lifelong resident of Charleston passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston for 61 years. He was a member of Pile Drivers - Tri-State Carpenters Local 74 in Chattanooga. He enjoyed farming and gardening and he was always sharing vegetables with neighbors and family. The joy of his life was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Chloe Liner Duggan; infant children, Nancy and Mark; son, Doug Duggan; son-in-law, Houston "Cotton" Shamblin; sisters, Ozelle Shipe and Vera White; brothers, Clarence, Grady, Woodrow, Melvin, Ed and Charles Dee Duggan. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Myrtle Robinson Duggan; daughters: Phyllis Shamblin, Kathy Duggan, Janet Newport and her husband Larry, and Robin Blankenship and her husband Steve; sons: David Duggan and wife Gayle, John Duggan and wife, Deborah, and Larry Duggan and wife Mary Ann "Tootie"; daughter-in-law, Ann Duggan; brother, Robert Duggan and wife Jean of Sweetser, Indiana; sixteen grandchildren: Barbie (Lynn) Davis, Joy (Mark) Gaston, Laura (Wayne) Reynolds, Sherry (Tracy) Maxfield, Stacey (Lori) Duggan, Penny (Chip) Howell, Kevin (TeriLyn) Duggan, Johnny (Kellie) Duggan, Jason (Lisa) Duggan, Jacob Duggan, Joseph Duggan, Julie (Josh) Melton, Jay (Lori) Newport, Steven Blankenship, Greg Blankenship and David Blankenship and his fiancé, Amanda; great-grandchildren: Jennifer (Greg) Cross, Valarie Reynolds, Alicia (Matt) Sloan, Justin Reynolds, Jessica (Matt) Russell, Bruce Gaston, Brandon Bryant, Bayleigh Bryant, Alex Bryant, Summer Duggan, Haley Sharpe, Cody Duggan, Ryann Duggan, Rebecca (Brad) Donegon, Megan Howell, Nick Howell, Briana Howell, Tyler Davis, Allie Davis, Keller Melton, Calie Melton, Hunter Newport, Jackie Newport, Tucker Powell, and Hayden Rankin; great-great grandchildren: Warren Cross, Madison Perry, Taylor Sloan, Savannah Gaston, Shelby, Zain and Gage Russell. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend John Robinson of Ohio and the Reverend Harrill Millsaps officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
