Joe Morgan, Jr.

Joe Morgan, Jr., 76, a resident of Birchwood, TN passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. He was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church in Birchwood where he was a deacon and former Sunday School Superintendent. He retired from Roadway Express after 26 years of employment. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines where he served in the Pacific. Mr. Morgan loved to farm and work with his hands. He was preceded in death by his parents, George L. Morgan and Susie Jane Bidwell and his sister, Leatha Callahan. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Judy Morgan of Birchwood; four children: George Morgan and wife, Debbie of Ooltewah, Darrel Morgan and wife, Linda of Birchwood, Greg Morgan and wife, Sha'Ree of Cleveland, and Angie Shelton and husband, Danny of Birchwood; five grandchildren: Ashley Morgan, Taylor Morgan, Troy Morgan, Hunter Morgan and Sydney Morgan; two sisters: Lois Jones of Ooltewah and Joyce Powell of Soddy Daisy; one brother: Charles Moore of Pisgah, AL; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor James Hutchings officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Taylor Morgan, Troy Morgan, Hunter Morgan, Charles Martin, Carson Allison and Jason Nichols will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of Chattanooga 4411 Oakwood Dr; Chattanooga, TN 37416.
