Charles C. Stone, 80, a resident of Harrison passed away at his home on August 18, 2012. He was born April 16, 1932 in Bradley County and lived most of his life in Polk County. He was a member of Benton United Methodist Church. He was a well known athlete at Polk Co. High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College where he excelled in sports despite an early farm accident. He played fast pitch softball in TN and Florida. Mr. Stone was a football and basketball official at TN. S.S.A.A. and FL. S.S.A.A. and is a member of the TSSAA officials Hall of Fame. He was employed by the Polk Co. Health Dept. and Florida State Board of Health. In 1970 he joined his family's business (Benton Mfg. Co Inc), where he served as president until his retirement. He was a member of Cleveland Associated Industries and was instrumental in bringing United Way and Jr. Achievement to Polk County. Mr. Stone served on the Jr. Achievement Board of Directors, Cleveland State Foundation Board, Peoples Bank Board of Directors and numerous other church and civic organizations. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Lucille Headrick and Floyd W. Humphrys and his father, Basil L. Stone. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dora Barnett Stone; daughter and son-in-law, Byron and Anne Woody of Cleveland; granddaughters and husbands, Ashley and Ty Bennewitz of Knoxville and Emily and Nick Lorenzano of Kissimmee, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Jeannette and Bill Cochran of Benton; special aunt, Jessie Humphrys of Benton; nieces, LaRonda Cochran, Lisa Miles and husband John; nephew, Billy Cochran and wife Brandy and extended family of great-nieces, great-great nephew and many cousins. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Joel Jenkins officiating. His family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 on Monday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family suggest memorials may be made to the Ronnie Shelton Ministry, Miracle Lake, 182 Co.
