Joseph David Martin, 90, a longtime resident of Bradley County passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 in a local hospital. He was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. He served in the US Army where he was a decorated veteran of World War II. He later retired from the National Guard after serving over 30 years. Mr. Martin was a long time member of the VFW in Athens. He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Messer Martin; parents, John C. Martin and Ella M. Earley Martin; son, Stan Martin and several sisters and brothers. Survivors include his daughters, Rhonda Smith and husband Eddie of Cleveland and Vicki Becker and husband Don of Spring City, TN; son, Jerry Martin of Cleveland; seven grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister, Blanche Parris and husband Preston of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Elder John E. Robbins and Elder John Wiley Robbins officiating. Interment will follow in the Candies Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the funeral home.
