Charles K. Thurman, 72, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a graduate of Ooltewah High School Class of 1957 where he was on their first football team. Mr. Thurman was retired from Pioneer Bank after 35 years of service in electrical maintenance. He was the owner of Thurman's Office Furniture for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Thurman; father, Charles Fred Thurman; and granddaughter, Brandy Mizell. He is survived by his mother, Lecil M. Thurman of Ooltewah; three daughters, Ramona Silvers of Cleveland; Mary Nowack and husband, Jim Nowack of Cleveland; and Karen Thurman Goldman and husband, Dr. James Goldman of Chattanooga; seven grandchildren, Hayley Nowack and Angelica Nowack of Toledo, Ohio; Briggs Goldman, Macallee Goldman, Guess Goldman, Legend Goldman, and Scout Goldman all of Chattanooga; one great grandchild, Ava Jane Bass of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Juanita Beasley and husband, Morris of Chattanooga; one brother, Edgar Thurman and wife, Dean of Ooltewah; special friend, Peggy Lackey of Ooltewah; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Dr. James Goldman & Jim Nowack officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dr. James Goldman, Craig Thurman, Briggs Goldman, Macallee Goldman, Mark Guy and Dale Mull. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the funeral home.
