Alvin W. "Snow" Caylor, 86, a well-known and beloved resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in a Chattanooga healthcare facility. He retired from the City of Cleveland and was known to many as the first motorcycle policeman for the Cleveland Police Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Cleveland Lodge #134 F&AM and the Alhambra Shrine. He attended North Cleveland Church of God where he was a member of the Unity Sunday School Class. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family at their cabin in Blue Ridge, Georgia, where he savored the beauty and quiet of the mountains. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest P. and Myrtle Caylor, sister, Mildred Brock, daughter, Pamela Blaise, and niece, Gayle Brock. Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Melba (Boehmer) Caylor of Cleveland; three children: Janet Waller and husband Benny of Hilton Head, SC, Eddie Caylor and wife Laura of Cleveland, and Patricia Ludlow and husband Richard of Boca Raton, FL; six grandchildren: Shannon Waller stationed at the US Marine Base in Beaufort, SC, Laura and Katy Waller of Hilton Head, SC, Brandon and Emily Caylor of Cleveland, and Shannon Wills of Boca Raton, FL; two great-grandchildren: Easton and Avery Wills of Boca Raton, Fl; and a host of loving extended family members. In addition to his family members, Alvin will be sadly missed by his many friends, especially his early morning coffee buddies at the Old Fort Restaurant. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Minister Cy Harris and Dr. Joseph Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with David Tribble, Stan Sherlin, Jared Elledge, Donny Alhberg, Brad Benton and David Boehmer serving as pallbearers. His family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. His family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the tape ministry of North Cleveland Church of God's Unity Sunday School Class.
