Garland William Cartwright, 95, of Bromley, Kentucky and formerly of Cleveland passed away Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Health Care in Edgewood, Ohio. Mr. Cartwright was born in Meigs County on September 8, 1916 to the late Thomas Owen and Annie Belle Atchley Cartwright. He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School, class of 1940 and attended Lincoln Memorial University on a basketball scholarship. He left school to serve in the U.S. Army Aircorp during World War II. After the war he continued his education at the University of Cincinnati. After retirement from General Electric where he worked for 32 years as electrical engineering designer he owned and operated Ponderosa Kennels where he raised field trial beagles. He was a very active member of the Ohio Valley Beagle Club. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy M. Kilgore Cartwright of Bromley, KY; daughter, Shawna Cartwright of Villa Hills, KY; son, Thomas (Nancy) Cartwright of Fairfield, Ohio; sister, Geraldine Thomas of Augusta, Ga.; brothers, Elmer Cartwright and Eddie Cartwright both of Cleveland and Ben Cartwright of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandson, Ross Garland Cartwright; uncle, N.C. Cartwright of Georgetown; aunt, Della Mae Hobby of Albany, GA; nephew, Billy Harmon of Cleveland and Tim Cartwright of Germantown, TN; nieces, Delores Climer, Jane Alford, Jill McGurie and Judy Watson all of Cleveland. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnston Cemetery in Georgetown with Dr. J.N. Howard officiating. A eulogy will be given by his brother, Eddie Cartwright. Tom Cartwright, Ross Cartwright, N.C. Cartwright, Tim Cartwright, Billy Harmon, and Bernie McGurie will serve as pallbearers. The service will conclude with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Fike Funeral Home.
