Joe Morgan, Sr.

Joe Morgan, Sr., 79, a resident of Cleveland passed away Sunday morning, November 27, 2011 in a local healthcare facility surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 23, 1932 in Tunnel Hill, GA. He was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church and was retired from Collins and Aikman in Dalton, GA after over 30 years of service as a boiler operator. An avid gardener, he loved sharing his crops with family and friends. He also loved the game of bowling, he traveled to several senior tournaments and received awards for his achievements during regular bowling league play. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Malfa Bridges Morgan; brother, Jack Morgan and sister, Peggy Morgan Gallant. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Barbara Waters Morgan; sons, Joe Morgan, Jr and his wife, Nicole of Cleveland, Joe Larry Morgan and family, Johnny Morgan and family, Richard Morgan and family; daughter, Jennifer Bates and family; step-daughter, Gail Baine and husband Leon of Rocky Face, GA; two special step-grandchildren, Nathan Ensley and Madison Ensley also of Rocky Face, GA; sisters, Agnes O'Bryant Peek of Chatsworth, GA and Nancy Morgan Tidwell of Dalton, GA; several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Willene Morgan of Calhoun, GA. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Richard Watson and the Reverend David Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in the Cohulla Baptist Church Cemetery with James Gibbs, Darrell Gibbs, Tim Walker, Jesse Ridley, Mickey Young and Terry Wilson serving as pallbearers. Nathan Ensley and Jimmy Bolen will serve as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
