W. Jasper Lacy, 97, died peacefully in his home in Lake Forest, Illinois on October 07, 2011. A native of Cleveland, he was born September 11, 1914 to the late William Franklin and Lora Belle Collett Lacy. He graduated from Bradley County High School in 1934 and attended the University of Tennessee. He was a WWII veteran and served as a Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Force on Guam. He worked at Lay & Co., a regional 5 & 10 cent store chain, where he retired as Vice President in 1982 after 31 years of service. He had previously worked at Hardwick Clothes for 13 years. He was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland before moving to Lake Forest in 2000 to be closer to his immediate family. His son, Alan, was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sears, Roebuck and Co. from 2000 to 2005. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Lou in 2000. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Caron, of Lake Forest; his grandsons, Daniel and Brian both of New York City; his niece, Carolyn Lacy (Mrs. James R.) Goins of Cleveland and his sister-in-law, Ita Ball (Mrs. Hayden) Lacy. A visitation will be held for friends and family at Fike Funeral Home from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 followed by his interment in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
