James "Jim" Ruble

February 16, 1923 — May 23, 2011

James "Jim" Ruble, founder and owner of Ruble Body and Paint Shop for over 50 years passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at the age of 88. He was the son of the late Porter Ruble and Emma Dodson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kathryne, his daughter, Karen Ruble Thurman, his sister Opal Suits, and his brother, Sam Harden. Jim was a member of Big Spring Baptist Church, a past member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, a 50 year Master Mason, a Life Member of Alhambra Shrine in Chattanooga, a 32nd degree Charter Member of the Scottish Rite of Chattanooga, and has been involved in the Sertoma Club and the Elks Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army, was a decorated World War II veteran. He was awarded two Battle Stars - one for his participation in the Battle of Normandy and one for his participation in the Battle of Brittany. He was also a past member of the Cleveland City School Board, and helped to form the "Lee Atchley" Rescue Unit. Jim is survived by 3 children; James A. Ruble and his wife Ingrid of Copperas Cove, TX, John Ruble, and Tricia Ruble Craig and her husband Hank of Cleveland, TN; 9 Grandchildren: Sherry Smith of Florence, KY, Tara Howe of Jacksonville, AL, Tasha Roland of Decatur, AL, Jon Allen of Atlanta, GA, James Ruble of Bryant, AL, Caitlin Craig and Andrew Craig of Knoxville, TN, David Brown and Rachel Craig of Cleveland, TN; 4 Great-grandchildren: Aaron Fisher and Cassie Smith of Cleveland, TN, Caleb Peterson of Decatur, AL, and Alex Bond of Florence, KY; and his loving companion "sweetheart", Doris Stonecipher. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:00p.m. in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend George Bulson officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Roger Butler, James Ruble, Roger Craig, Mark Smith, Thomas Stonecipher and Jon Allen Ruble will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m. The family requests that memorials be made to the Big Spring Baptist Church, 1415 Hardwick Street, SE Cleveland, TN 37311.
