John Madison Neyman, 86, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, February 19, 2011 in a Cleveland nursing facility with his wife, Peggy at his bedside. He was born in Ringgold, GA on December 6, 1924 to Samuel Francis Neyman and Oma Poteet Neyman; both preceded him in death. The family moved to Cleveland in 1939. John enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and spent his tour of duty at Great Lakes, Illinois. He was honorably discharged in 1946 after serving in the hospital corps as a Pharmacists Mate at Great Lakes Training Center. In May 1946 he married a Cleveland girl, Nancy Jo Sweeney; they had one daughter, Cynthia Joy Neyman who passed away in 1970. Nancy's death was 21/2 years later. He was also preceded in death by 2 older brothers, Gordon Neyman and Homer Neyman. He attended Westwood Baptist Church for many years where he was very active as head usher and was on several committees: finance, benevolence and building. He also taught a men's Sunday school class for several years.At the time of his death he attended Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he had also taught a men's Sunday school class. He loved to read his Bible and became quite a Bible scholar. He had been a businessman in Cleveland since the late 1940's. He and Nancy owned Neyman's Antiques for many years; they also restored antiques. He was a contractor /builder; he developed 2 subdivisions and built over 100 houses. He was a prominent real estate broker for over 30 years and was one of the first realtors in the Cleveland Realtors Association and Home Builders Association. He retired from real estate in the 1990's and opened "Lamps and Things", he then retired at age 80 due to health reasons. On June 30, 1974 he married Peggy Ann McLain. He is survived by his wife Peggy and one daughter Gretchen Neyman Ruvo and husband Rob; one dearly loved grandson, Robert (Sonny) Ruvo, Jr.; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Barbara (Mrs. Billy) McLain; brother-in-law, Tommy McLain and his wife Anita and many friends. He was truly a "Southern Gentleman". Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend John McCarty, pastor of Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Reverend Marshall Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Nephews, great-nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the funeral home.
