Mary Katherine Reed

Mary Katherine Frye "Katie" Reed, 97, a resident of Cleveland passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at a health care facility in Collegedale. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland. Katie was born May 23, 1913 in McMinn County but lived most of her life in Bradley County. Katie was the hostess at Cherokee Coffee Shop for many years and retired from Burlington Industries. Katie lived a full life, staying active with friends; enjoying church activities and Burlington co-workers retirement breakfast gatherings. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Reed, who passed away in 1990; they were married for 55 years. He was a former partner in Modernway Printing. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Will and Florence Ballinger Frye; eight sisters and three brothers. Survivors include a special niece, Geraldine Frye Lasater of Ooltewah; sisters-in-law, Jessie Frye Shugart and Leona Reed Brock; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Sorah officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with David Ingram, Joe Reed, Joseph Reed,Michael Reed, Buddy Lasater and Greg Serum serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
