William Pitman, 86, a resident of Calhoun for the past 55 years, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was employed with Bowater Corporation for 35 years. He was well known in the Calhoun area and the Bowater community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan William Pittman, Sr. and Elulia Mizell Pittman and brother, N.W. Pittman, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Willie Pearl Pittman of Calhoun; children: Judy Ann Roderick of Athens; Bill Pittman and wife, Charlotte of Calhoun; 4 grandchildren: Leigh Ann Burgess of Calhoun, Meredith Kathleen Feinauer of Ooltewah, William Casey Pittman and Christopher Lee Pittman both of Calhoun; 3 great grandchildren: William Burgess, Rachel Ann Burgess and Emma Katherine Feinauer; 2 sisters: Ruth Ballard, Enon, LA and Audrey Stafford of Franklinton, LA; 1 brother, Larry Pittman, Bogulusa, LA and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Friday, June 25, 2010 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Cheatham and Pastor Ron Sorah officiating. Entombment will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Don Gutherie, Eddie Geren, Donnie Swafford, Eddie Smith, Chris Dodson and Sidney Breaux serving as pall bearers. The Adult Men's Sunday School Class at Calhoun First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
