Houston Shamblin

December 30, 1938 — June 16, 2010

Houston Charles "Cotton" Shamblin, 71, a resident of Charleston was called home to be with his Lord and Savior with his family by his side on June 16, 2010. His battle with cancer ended after five years. Mr. Shamblin was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston where he served as a deacon. He was employed with Magic Chef for 28 years. He was a part-time farmer and devoted to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lee and Bonnie Rogers Shamblin; brothers, Bill Shamblin and David Shamblin. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Phyllis Duggan Shamblin of Charleston; three daughters and sons-in-law: Barbie and Lynn Davis of Cleveland, Joy and Mark Gaston of Charleston and Laura and Wayne Reynolds of Benton: six grandchildren: Jennifer and Gregory Cross, Valerie Reynolds, Alicia and Matt Sloan, Justin Reynolds, Jessica Gaston and Bruce Gaston; three great grandchildren: Madison Reynolds Perry, Savannah Gaston and Warren Cross; brothers: Gene Shamblin of Cleveland, Junior Shamblin and Kenneth Shamblin both of Charleston; sisters: Margaret Smith and Edna Wade both of Cleveland; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members; family friends, Amanda Gribble and son, Hayden of Cohutta, GA. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Isbill officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with his nephews serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday June 17, 2010 at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Rd.
