Ed Jurczak , 82, a resident of Cleveland, was born and raised in Hammond, Indiana to parents Edwin Frank and Mary (Poremba) Jurczak. In high school he was named a football All-American and was recruited to play for the University of Chattanooga; there he excelled as a running back under the guidance of legendary coach Scrappy Moore. Ed was named a college football All-American, was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Chemistry. Ed also served as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ed began his career as a chemist for Burkart-Schier Chemical and later worked in chemical sales as a partner with Dooley Chemical. He owned Cleveland Chemical Company and also worked for Standard Adhesive in Dalton. Ed was always an avid golfer and enjoyed road trips and travels with his partner Bobbye in Canada, England, Washington state and New England. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jerry and Frances. Ed is survived by Bobbye Creasman, the significant person in his life and loving companion for the past 20 years; by his sister Marian; by children Lynn, Lori, Edwinna, Frank and Suzanne; by step-children Steve, Jaime and Brigitte; and by grandkids Bobby, Hayden, Andi, Brynnan, Carly, Justin, Stephanie, Brandon and Alison. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, April 9, 2010 at Fike Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 11:30 am in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 - 8pm at the funeral home.
