Ethel A. Silver, 85, a lifelong resident of Cleveland passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 in a local hospital. She was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church. Mrs. Silver worked at First Baptist Church Day Care for 15 years; she was a school crossing guard at Mayfield School for 40 years. Her joy was working with children. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Smith and Augusta Moore Smith; husband, Joe Homer Silver, Sr.; daughter, Shelba Ross and son, Joe Homer Silver, Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Martha Poole and Kathy Simpson both of Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Joyce Silver of Cleveland; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; best friend, Betty Pearson and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Jeannie Cissom officiating. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Shed Cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
