John R. J.R. Evans, Jr.

John R. "J.R." Evans, Jr., a lifelong resident of Cleveland passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010 in a local hospital. He was a member of Chilcutt United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees and sang in the church quartet. A veteran of the United States Army Airforce, he served in Italy and Africa during World War ll. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Richie Evans, Sr., and Minnie Johnson Evans; brothers: Earl, Homer, Ernest and Lee Evans; sisters, Virgie Rogers and Joann Merriman. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha Brown Evans of Cleveland; son, Gale Patrick Evans and wife Jean of Rochester, NY; daughters: Janis Wilkey and husband Boofer of Chattanooga, Peggy Lowe of Cleveland and Debby Waddell and husband Steve of Cleveland; grandchildren: Scott Evans, Michael Evans, Kim Evans, Cindy Evans, Jonathan Baugh, Nick Lowe, Monica Stephens, Amanda Waddell, Stephanie Barefield, Brett Waddell, Jonas Wilkey and Patrick Wilkey; eight great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Ruth Webb of Tullahoma, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Arp officiating. Interment will follow in the Chilcutt Cemetery with Walt Keith, Nathaniel Keith, Coleman Stephens, Scott Corvin, Brandon Barefield and Nick Lowe serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4:30-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
