James Edward Durham, 85, a resident of Cleveland went home to be with the Lord January 15, 2010. He was a member of Faith Memorial Church for 55 years. He retired from Hardwick Stove Company after 42 years of service in the maintenance department. Mr. Durham was a World War 11 veteran, serving with the United States Army in the Normandy Invasion where he was awarded the Purple Heart; he also served on the front lines in the Rhineland where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the D.A.V. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter Durham and Martha Bingham Durham; grandson, Tyler Durham and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Geneva Brown Durham of Cleveland; daughters: Brenda Spraker and husband Rick, Martha Neloms and husband James all of Cleveland; son, Gayle Durham and wife Glenda of Cleveland; grandchildren: Penny Walker, Dawn Cartwright, Stephanie Brooks, Eric Neloms, Candace Higdon and Robert Grant all of Cleveland; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Sue Smith and husband "Red" of Cleveland and several nieces and nephews. His going home service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2010 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Frank Nolen officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Eric Neloms, David Brooks, Wayne Cartwright, Monty Walker, Robert Grant and Dustin Higdon will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
