Ernest Dixon, 77, a resident of Charleston, passed away, Monday, December 21, 2009 in an Etowah healthcare facility. He was of the Christian faith. He was retired from TVA where he worked construction and maintenance in the nuclear plants. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Mr. Dixon enjoyed his travels and especially annual Army Company L. reunions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus Dixon and Mittie Shell Dixon and wife, Doris Dixon and brother, Virgil Dixon. He is survived by his five children: Linda Headrick of Tunnel Hill, GA, Angela Dixon of Norman, OK, Ricky Dixon of Calhoun, TN, Beverly Turner of Omaha, NE and Cindy Shackelford of Johnson City, TN; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 5 sisters: Dorothy Brackett of Cleveland, Alma Crye of Chattanooga, Agnes McGhee, Thelma Carey and Sue Vaughn all of Cleveland and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday December 23, 2009 at 1 P.M. in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Minister Bill Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Calhoun Cemetery with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
